Collecting can be murder — Kathy Aarons — #bookgiveaway

Kathy Pottery with truffled to death lee 2We’re celebrating the upcoming release of my third Food Lovers’ Village mystery, BUTTER OFF DEAD (July 7—save the suspense and pre-order it now!) with a glimpse of some of your favorite authors’ prized collections.

Today, a peek behind the scenes with Kathy Aarons, author of the Chocolate Covered Mysteries, which debuted with DEATH IS LIKE A BOX OF CHOCOLATES and continues with TRUFFLED TO DEATH, out June 2 (and available for pre-order now!).

One reader commented last week that “our collections define us.” Turns out, they also influence our characters—and our stories.

“When Leslie asked about any collections I have, my first thought was that I didn’t really collect anything. But then I realized that my husband and I have a nice assortment of pottery, thanks to my generous in-laws who live in North Carolina. Many of the local potters are famous for their artistry, and we’re lucky enough to have several pieces.

Kathy - truffledIn TRUFFLED TO DEATH, second in the Chocolate Covered Mystery series, chocolatier Michelle Serrano falls in love with a centuries-old clay bowl that held chocolate long ago. The bowl is being displayed at Chocolates and Chapters for a reception celebrating the donation of Maya art to the local museum.

Then the bowl and other artifacts are stolen, and Michelle’s business partner, Erica Russell, is accused of the theft. When someone winds up dead, they are drawn into the investigation that includes international art trafficking, family secrets, and betrayal.

Collecting can be murder — two weeks of fun — #bookgiveaway

IMGP2894Collections. We’ve all got ’em, whether we realize it or not. When I was writing the third Food Lovers’ Village Mystery, BUTTER OFF DEAD (July 7, 2015, available for pre-order now), I realized that one of the book’s themes is collections—and what happens when one becomes an obsession. Collecting can be murder.

So I thought it would be fun to ask other writers to share pictures of their collections and tell you how they came about. Starting soon, for the next couple of weeks, I’ll post a new collection and the cover of the author’s latest book on my blog, www.LeslieBudewitz.com/blog; the posts will also appear on FB. Leave a comment on the blog or on FB—tell me about your collections, if you’d like—for a chance to win a copy of the featured author’s latest book, many of them signed. Ruff the Cat will pick a winner the next morning, so check back to claim your prize!

As the shelf shows, you’ll have a chance to win books by Catriona McPherson, Cathy Ace, Connie Archer, Kate Carlisle, Sheila Connolly, Kathy Aarons, Vicki Thompson, Susanna Hardy, Daryl Wood Gerber aka Avery Aames, Roberta Islieb, and me—and maybe a few more.

We’ll wrap up with a few pictures of my collections and some special Food Lovers’ Village giveaways.
