We’re celebrating the upcoming release of my third Food Lovers’ Village mystery, BUTTER OFF DEAD (July 7—save the suspense and pre-order it now!), with a glimpse of some of your favorite authors’ prized collections.
Today, we’re peeking into Catriona McPherson’s closet…
“This is the inside of my wardrobe. Well, one half of a shared wardrobe. The other side is much duller: shirts, trousers and a single kilt. I think seventy one dresses counts as a collection by anyone’s reckoning. In fact, a friend happened to see inside my wardrobe recently and said – after a long pause – “it’s not a disorder because you wear them”.
I’ll take that. And it’s true; I do wear them. There are only three in here that still have their tags on: a floor-length, red-carpet-worthy gown (Ross Dress For Less, natch); an ill-considered brown thing with a bustle (life’s bad enough without wearing brown and frankly my bottom doesn’t need the help of a bustle either); and the dress I’m going to wear on my 50th birthday in October, when this year’s Fit For Fifty campaign has left me svelte and able to slip into it. If not, I’m sure I’ll find something to throw on.”
Connect with Catriona (the o is silent) on her website, on Facebook, or on Twitter @catrionamcp
And if you love dresses, watch for her next historical, DANDY GILVER AND THE UNPLEASANTNESS IN THE BALLROOM. (The British version, DANDY GILVER AND THE FATAL FOXTROT, will be out in July in the UK, from Hodder & Stoughton.) She says: “The frocks are to die for.” Takes a Scot to refer to a dress as a frock and not sound silly.
But she also writes stunning standalones. Leave a comment on my Facebook page or blog for a chance to win a SIGNED copy the THE DAY SHE DIED, nominated for the 2015 Edgar and Anthony Awards. Ruff the Cat will choose a winner at random—check back in the morning to find out!
(Hint: if you subscribe to the blog, you’ll receive the posts by email and you won’t have to hunt for them on FB.)

A very interesting collection.
Well, it IS Catriona — I suspect interesting is her middle name!
OMG! My wife has so many pairs of shoes and boots! It’s way past time to clean out the closets! Thank you, Leslie and Catriona, for the chance to win this giveaway.
Now John, you know you’re never going to get a woman to agree that another woman needs to clean out her closet!
Now, this is spooky. The ballroom book is actually going out in the UK as UNPLEASNATNESS IN THE BALLROOM too, but an early title possibility, shared only in emails between me and the editors was indeed FATAL FOXTROT. Leslie, your web of surveillance has finally caught up with you! Cx
UNPLEASANTNESS – I’m only halfway down the first cup of coffee.
You’ve caught me out. Seriously, it’s listed as FATAL FOXTROT on http://www.Stopyourekillingme.com — but how did it get there? Well, we wouldn’t be mystery writers without a few unanswered questions, would we?
Will Ruff take bribes of catnip?

Oh, yes.
wow that is a lot of dresses. My sister has a closet like that but no where near that many! I don’t think that I have even owned that many dresses all of my life 🙂 thanks for the chance to win a great book!
Fess up, we’re all counting, right? I think I’ve got 5 dresses, two skirts, and two skirted suits…must go shopping ….
I’ve only got one pair of jeans.
Ah, so Lisa and I have you beat there, hands down!
I love seeing all the different collections.
Isn’t it fun? Thanks for joining me!
Oh, I love dresses like that. Much better than jeans and boring work clothes. I think I need to expand my collection.
Sally – Dressbarn! I love that place.
I’d wear dresses if I wasn’t such a big girl. I love frilly, flowery sundresses. I wear jeans and t-shirts. LOL But out of all the dresses I saw n your closet, I was most jealous over the hanger that looked like it had cupcakes on it. I collect all things cupcakes. Thanks for the fun peek!
Cupcakes? I’ve got a cream one with trains on it. I was with a pal in Edinburgh when I bought it. I asked her “what’s the upper age limit for a dress with trains on?’ She said “nine”.
How about a big, frilly cupcakey blouse to wear with those jeans?
Thanks for sharing you collection. At least you can wear them. I would not have the space for these.
Good point, Barbara — I have closet envy!
The wardrobe (closet!) in this house is indeed humungous. It’s part of its seventies charm along with the chocolate brown sunken bath and the Flintstones Memorial Fireplace. Careful what you wish for. . .
I love dresses, and enjoy wearing them. But finding dresses nowadays in my size or that actually fit (I’m short & dumpy) is not an easy task.
Have you tried Catriona’s fave, Dressbarn?
What a great collection of dresses! I think I need to buy a few.
Me, too — she’s inspiring us!
Love seeing everyone’s collections Clothes and shoes are a few things I do not collect
Ah, shoes. I’ll confess to having had a lovely collection in my city lawyer days, but no more…
I do no own a single dress. Never can find shoes that fit me that do not look clunky with dresses. Besides I live by Erasmuses quote, “When I have a little money I buy books. I buy food and clothing with what is left over.” Not sure I have that exactly correct. My eyes are only a quarter open.
Great quote, isn’t it, Liz? Thanks for joining in the fun!
